I mean, even assuming we could send a signal that could somehow travel between dimensions, we'd need something in place back home to receive it, and if it's here can it also be there?
Does it need to be there? That other radio, the one I built, should still be back there. And assuming they have it plugged in, there's your receiver.
And maybe we could be. But I'm willing to take any chance I can get. I know that sometimes Kyle thinks that I want to go home, but there's not a lot back there that isn't right here. What I do need are answers. About what happens to the people who go missing. And preferably a way to stop things like the ghost ship. That or get us all somewhere else. Maybe not Roswell, but somewhere.
[ It didn't used to be. Michael also didn't always used to want to go back, but he does now. ]
You and me, we have a life there. A future. None of us have that here, not really. It's all been taken away from us. I want to be back there with you, with Isobel and Max.
We can try.
Do you think it's from before I fixed it or after?
[ And there he is, hitting below the belt. Because it's not just him and Michael anymore, even if that would be the simpler version. ]
And you know that if I did have a choice, I wouldn't just leave everyone here. And I wouldn't leave without some of the answers.
[ Bass. But also, what if they got back to Roswell and Maria was gone? Liz. Max. There were too many unanswered questions. Too many ways this place could work. ]
Good question. I could turn it on and see if I start seeing things in a day or two.
We know things are different there. But being real
about it, Alex? This isn't our real life. We've both gone home from here
before and we know exactly how it goes. We know we won't remember.
[ There's more he could say that he doesn't, because he thinks it
would upset Alex. How he's more convinced than ever that they're some kind
of clones. That they're not the real versions of themselves at all. That
some day they'll go to sleep here and never open their eyes in this world
again. That he thinks that's what happens to the people who disappear,
because Max had disappeared and they saw him back home in Roswell, older
than he'd been when he was here. What happens here doesn't matter, it makes
no difference to their real lives. This world is a fantasy.
Alex has things here that he can't see that way. Michael knows that.
It's okay. He doesn't need to start a fight over it, he just knows how he
feels. ]
I don't love the idea of you risking your sanity
over something that may not even do anything for us. Maybe we should take
it apart first.
It's as real as we're going to get. Because the point is that we don't go home. We remember things from there, sure. But we never leave the city. So as far as I can see, you can't say that we didn't just get selective memories returned to us. Maybe we all lived to some potential last memory - I'm talking kidnapping last memory, not death last one - and we'll never remember anything past that.
But whatever the truth of this place, I think we need to know. And until I find out this is all really some fever dream, I'm going to believe that the things we do here matter and will continue to matter. Because I refuse to believe that I could forget that we spent months here happy and then went back to more than two years apart.
[ And there's Alex's hot take on their comas. That of course they don't go back. They only receive memories. And so the Alex that was in Roswell, whether it was the Alex in Duplicity or not, never had the memories from the city in the first place. ]
But yes. If you want to come and disassemble the radio and make sure it won't try to kill me a second time, by all means.

We could be sending a signal into nothing.
