History: History on Wikia Personality: Coward: Most of the people who know him would say that a man decorated with the purple heart, a man who lost a limb for his country, was the furthest thing from a coward that you could be. But Alex has always been afraid of his father. His father has always had a temper and Alex has always been the black sheep of the family, so, as a kid, he’d always borne the brunt of his father. This comes to a head when his father finds him just coming out of bed with Michael and loses it. He puts up little more than a token protest when his father demands that it ends and does nothing to stop his father from coming after him physically. Even when Michael tries to intervene, all he does is stare in horror. When he leaves and joins the Air Force, he tells himself that it’s because he wants to learn to fight the battles instead of just watching on the sidelines, but when he returns, he almost fights against getting into a relationship with Michael again, despite the fact that the two are drawn to each other. He spends weeks leaving Michael’s trailer after sex and, the one time that he stays, he rushes off when he finds out that someone’s outside. He’s scared of his father’s reaction and scared of what will happen if Michael leaves like he’s planning to and it leads him to be indecisive. Indecisive: After Alex comes back to Roswell, his entire relationship with Michael is defined by its sense of on-again/off-again, always because Alex is the one ending things. There’s a night of reminiscing at their high school reunion that leads to something that Alex later rejects. And then he’s the one pulling Michael into Michael’s trailer, only to leave a few weeks later when Isobel shows up unexpectedly. The one time he tries to bring things public, he lets his father whisper poisoned words to him and he breaks things off for real. Except that the two keep circling each other. Every time Michael tries to make a move, Alex rejects it and every time Alex decides he’s willing to try, something happens to change his mind, like when he finds out that Michael’s working on a way to leave the planet. By the time he finally makes up his mind - and only because he’s forced into the decision by a life-or-death situation - it’s too late. Secretive: Throughout the entire time Alex has been back in Roswell, he’s been keeping information to himself. It starts partly when he wants to keep his relationship with Michael between them, but then Kyle shows up at Alex’s cabin looking for information about his father and things start spiraling. When he finds a weird piece of almost glowing glass, his research leads him to start stalking his own father. After he confronts Michael with the information he learns from his father and finds out about Michael’s plan to rebuild the ship they arrived on, Alex keeps the fact that he has a piece of the ship from Michael. Ultimately, this secrecy leaves him cut off from what is happening to Michael and the rest of his family and leads to a rift where he’s left out of important events that are happening in Michael’s life. His fear, his hesitation, and his unwillingness to communicate with Michael all lead to a destruction of the one relationship that means the most to him, once he finally admits it to himself. Loyalty: Out of everything that Alex does wrong when it comes to his home and love lives, protecting the people he cares about remains the most stable thing about him. While he has plenty of friends to sit and have a beer with when he gets back, he considers his two best friends to be Liz and Maria and he takes those relationships seriously. When Maria is having difficulties because of her mom showing back up and needs her friends around her, it’s Alex who goes and reminds Liz to pull her head out of the lab and then he spends the day with the two of them and Maria’s mother. And when Maria says nothing else will happen between her and Michael, he takes her at face value.
