[ He'd comment, but it doesn't sound like Alex needs the added frustration. Anyway, his usual default hangouts tend to be more questionable than is probably Alex's type, so it's not like he's got a better option. ]
Heading there now. Ignore the line and tell the bouncer I sent you.
On the outside, the place didn't look like much of a club. Except for the line around the block. And then, once Nate got inside, he was met with a proper looking bar in one room and a stage and dance floor in the next.
By the time Nate got there, Alex was sitting prominently in the bar section of the room, still in his jacket, but already sporting a beer.
"What, you didn't get me a drink?" A light greeting, not actually annoyed, given as Nate dropped into a seat with a grin, already peeling out of his own jacket now that he was inside. "You've got interesting taste, I almost thought I was in the wrong place."
"I figured you didn't want it hot." He considered that. "Unless you wanted a hot drink." Growing up in the desert, he didn't usually want his alcohol hot. Though the few times he'd been in colder climates, he could see the benefits of having a spiked hot cider or something to that effect.
He waved at the bartender. "He's with me," he said, nodding at Nate and to Nate he added, "I already opened up a tab."
Did he expect to spend a lot of time drinking? Yes. And dancing? Also yes. And maybe singing, since it was open mic night. But he'd need to be drunker than he was.
"Not really," he admitted, wrinkling his nose, before leaning over to order a beer for himself. Despite being from further up north, Nate's always run hot, usually inclined to try to cool down as much as possible.
"Planning on having more than you want to keep track of?" he asked as he settled back, leaning on his hand, looking Alex over thoughtfully. Trying to get the measure of how bad his mood actually was, and not doing a great job of hiding that.
"Just dealing with my dad's bullshit. Even from beyond the grave he can still come back to haunt me." He didn't want Nate thinking that this was something that was a problem that might come into the bar with them. But Alex had spent a considerable amount of time trying to erase his father's legacy and he thought he'd gotten all of it. It turned out that his father was even sneakier than Alex had given him credit for.
It had led to a bad mood for the day as he went back to the work of removing his father's legacy. It had to be done for Alex's own long-term peace of mind, but it led to anxiety in the short term.
